Propre turns your voice into text on your Mac. Your voice and your words never leave it. This page lists everything Propre stores, and the few times it connects to the internet.
Propre is made by Near App LLC ("we" on this page).

What stays on your Mac
Propre does all its speech recognition and cleanup on your Mac, with models that run offline. There's no account, and nothing is uploaded.
Propre keeps these on your Mac only:
- Your recordings, briefly. Audio stays in memory while Propre turns it into text, then it's gone. Propre never saves recordings.
- History. The text of your last 100 dictations, so you can paste one again. Clear it any time from Home.
- Your dictionary, snippets, styles, app rules and settings.
- Project folder names. If you add a project folder, Propre keeps the names of files and functions it finds. It never stores your code.
- Activity. Daily counts, such as words and dictations per day and per app. No text.
- A diagnostics log. What happened to each dictation, such as "pasted" or "copied", with no text.
- Your unlock. Your code and its activation, in your Mac's Keychain. It doesn't sync through iCloud.
Propre never records or captures your screen, and only listens while you dictate. It uses macOS Accessibility to find the text field your cursor is in, check that it isn't a password field, and paste. It doesn't save or send anything from that field.
When Propre connects to the internet
Propre makes three kinds of connection. None of them includes your voice or your text.
| When | Where to | What's sent |
|---|---|---|
| You enter your code, or move Propre to another Mac | Lemon Squeezy (api.lemonsqueezy.com) |
Your code, and the name "Propre" for the activation. Nothing about your Mac |
| Propre checks for updates | Our download server (download.getpropre.app) |
A request for the latest version, which shows Propre's version number |
| You choose a language, or change it | Hugging Face (huggingface.co), where the speech and cleanup models are published |
Requests for the model files |
Lemon Squeezy's reply to the code check includes your name and email from your order. Propre throws them away and never stores them.
While the models download, Propre uses Apple's built-in speech. If your Mac doesn't have Apple's speech files for your language yet, macOS downloads them from Apple.
Like any web request, each of these shows your IP address to the server it reaches.
After setup, you can turn off Wi-Fi and Propre keeps working. Propre sends your code to Lemon Squeezy once, when you unlock, and again only if you move Propre to another Mac. Each update carries a list of refunded codes, and Propre checks yours against it on your Mac. That check sends nothing.
When you buy Propre
Lemon Squeezy sells Propre for us as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your email, payment details and billing address, and handles them under its privacy policy. We never see your card details.
We can see your order in Lemon Squeezy: your name, email, country, what you paid and your code. We use them to help you with your purchase, such as freeing your code for a new Mac or handling a refund.
When you contact us
If you email us, we see your email address and what you write. We use it to answer you.
News emails
We only send news about Propre, such as big updates, to people who sign up for it. Buying Propre or emailing us for help doesn't sign you up unless you ask to be. Every news email has a link to unsubscribe.
Report a problem saves a diagnostics file on your Mac and opens an email to us. Nothing is sent until you attach the file and send the email yourself. The file includes your settings, the Propre and macOS versions, model names and error counts. It never includes your dictations, dictionary, snippets or history.
This website
This website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. Google Analytics sets cookies and sends Google your IP address and details about your browser. Google handles that data under its privacy policy.
If you're in the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, a banner asks before any analytics cookies are set. Google Analytics only loads if you press Accept. If you press Decline, or close the banner, it doesn't load and no analytics cookies are set. To change your choice later, press Cookie settings at the bottom of any page.
Everywhere else, Google Analytics loads when you visit. To stop it, block cookies for this site in your browser, or install Google's opt-out add-on.
The app never uses cookies or analytics. Google Analytics only runs on this website.
The website and downloads are served through Cloudflare, which sees your IP address when you visit or download.
Deleting your data
Everything Propre stores is on your Mac. To remove it all:
- Quit Propre and move it from Applications to the Trash.
- Delete the folder
~/Library/Application Support/Propre. - To remove the unlock too, open Keychain Access and delete the Propre item. You'd need your code again to unlock.
To delete your order details, email hello@getpropre.app. We'll ask Lemon Squeezy to remove them, except what the law makes them keep, such as tax records.
Changes
If Propre ever starts sending anything new, we'll update this page before that version ships.
